Norwegian – Swedish energy agreement signed at Arctic Frontiers
During the Arctic Frontiers meeting in Tromsø February 2026, Energi i Nord in Norway and Luleå Science Park in Sweden signed a cooperation agreement. The agreement aims at establishing a collaboration network between industrial enterprises in northern Norway and Sweden.
"This marks an important milestone for Energi i Nord. Our agreement with Luleå Science Park strengthens our joint efforts to drive innovation, enhance competence development, and support sustainable growth across the northern Nordic region. Together, we see substantial opportunities to create synergies that will benefit the long‑term development of communities in the north," says Marit Magelsen Vambheim, Director at Energi Nord.
The idea to tie closer bonds was born during a workshop at Luleå University of Technology in August 2025 within the framework of “The Arctic Six Extended Cross-border energy collaboration” which is an initiative to accelerate sustainable energy development across the Arctic region bringing together industries, technology developers, researchers, and communities.
During the meeting at Arctic Frontiers the EU Arctic Policy, adopted in October 2021, was discussed. The Policy will be updated in 2026 with focus on security and defense, geopolitical alignment, environmental action and sustainable development. A public consultation is open until 16 March 2026. The Arctic Six will send a joint consultation coordinated by the Arctic Six EU task force.
“A joint consultation with input from all six member universities will put more weight behind our message and stress that the European Arctic share similar challenges and need to cooperate across country boarders”, says Johanne Raade, Director of the Arctic Six.
Energi Nord Energi i Nord consists of a broad partnership from across the energy sector in Northern Norway, and is committed to advancing the energy transition and promoting sustainable value creation for companies and communities across the region. Luleå Science Park is a collaborative environment designed to support knowledge intensive and tech-oriented companies in northern Sweden through cooperation between business and academia.
