Cross-Border Energy Workshop
Energi i Nord, Business Oulu, and LTU Business, in collaboration with Arctic Six, are organizing a workshop focused on cross-border energy cooperation in the Fennoscandian Arctic.
The workshop will be held from April 8 to 9, in Luleå . The primary goal is to establish five collaborative projects between energy stakeholders and the Arctic Six.
Workshop Scope
The green transition in energy presents significant opportunities to society, but also challenges. We face numerous unresolved issues that must be addressed to reduce emissions and meet climate goals. For people residing in the Arctic, these challenges are particularly pressing, as climate changes are occurring rapidly and locally across this region. Actors in the Arctic – from local communities to businesses – have a vested interest in these developments, unlike external actors. Therefore, we aim to unite companies and universities in the Fennoscandian Arctic to identify and initiate major research and development projects that will accelerate value creation and social progress in our region.
Industries require researchers to help bridge gaps in their value chains. Consequently, we have identified seven key topics for the Arctic Six Extended Workshop. These topics were selected based on two main criteria:
The urgency for our business community to address these issues.
The thematic areas necessary for research to foster value creation for companies, individuals, and societies in the Arctic.
Workshop Topics
- Cybersecurity related to the energy system/network
- Green Steel
- Transport of new energy carriers
- Energy infrastructure for the new energy system
- Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS)
- Critical raw materials
- Societal challenges in energy transition: social license, land use conflicts, innovation, adaptation, engagement
The outcome of the workshop will be reported later.
